“Oh, you think I’m just some left-wing paranoid schizophrenic that wishes for the zombie apocalypse and the end of mankind? No, those are my friends.”

If you can’t read the sign, it says the company has pulled its Jim Henson (The Muppets) toys from their kids meals, due to a possible safety hazzard. Sounds reasonable, right?

Unfortunately, it’s a bold-faced lie. Here’s the true story, as reported by the Toronto Sun.

Listen, I don’t really care if the Cathy family that owns that restaurant somehow believes gay men and women are second class humans. I don’t like it, but free choice sometimes means tolerating idiots, who make the wrong choice.

However! A big however, here. You don’t get to serve and profit off the public and then use that money to fund hate groups, not without some old-fashioned muckraking, and deep scrutiny.

Sure, Chick-fil-A does some good things. They do give to legitimate charities, some of their restaurants are good community citizens, and their CEO, Truett Cathy has a scholarship fund for college kids. But, when one practices a categorization of who gets the love, by segregation, nothing good comes of it. Nothing.

I’m eerily reminded of the many Native American legislative acts by Congress in the 19th and then 20th Centuries. Ever learn about the Dawes Act of 1887? That’s the one, where white citizens were going to “help” the “Indians,” right? By forcing Native Americans to conform to the white standards of the day, legislators would “help” those conquered souls.

What it actually did was imprison the minds of a race of people. They were forced to believe they were second-class humans, and many turned to alcohol and other abuses to escape the reality of that oppression.

Our country is a melting pot, right? That means we must always fight our gut reactions to intolerance. Judgement is easy. Segregation is easy. Hate is too easy. These are the human characteristics Christ warned us about.

Like I said earlier, it’s tough out there. People are out of work, mortgage companies are still foreclosing on people’s homes, state unemployment funds are drying up, and the infamous 1-2% will never really pay fair taxes, which will put a real damper on blue collar workers for quite some time. Middle-class, middle-American whites want to blame someone for their woes. I get that. They blame the black man in the White House. They blame the Occupy movement protesting Wall Street. They blame their local school board and their garbage men. Yes, they even blame “the gays.”

These wackos will never blame the greedy, who pay a far lower tax percentage and therefore, keep the rest of us begging for table scraps. You know why? It’s because the wealthy are smarter, God-like creatures, who know more than the rest of us.

Makes sense, right? I mean, hell, even Christ slept every night on a feather bed and hung out with King Herrod all the time. Christ believed in the power of trickle down rule. He often asked young boys to spit-polish his sandals and if they did a good job, a tip was given.

Idiots. As my Pap once said, “When all goes wrong, blame the brown man, the woman, the Jew, or the Irish and the Italians.” Now it’s the Muslims and “the gays.” (Sorry, I just love quoting Robertson that way.)

I’m Irish and Slovak. We haven’t been targeted in quite some time. Phew. But you never know. It may all come back around. That’s the funny part about hatred, it’s often unpredictable, but a reliable part of who we are.

Good thing we got wannabe Christians to tell us right from wrong. I feel better already.

Full disclosure: I grabbed this off of Facebook and don’t know of it’s validity.

Update: July 26, 2012.

What the hell does Rahm Emanuel think he's doing?

I'm a liberal. That means I'm all about free expression, human rights, fair economics, etc. Since when does liberal = thuggery? Can you imagine my reaction, if say, an Alabama mayor was trying to shut down planned parenthood? How about, if say, Congress and the President wanted to stop a family from pulling the plug on a vegetable?

Those very real instances were met with anger from the left. I don't blame the right-wing one bit for getting pissed about Emanuel. I hate Chick-Fil-A's leadership, as stated in this blog, but free expression is so vitally important. Persuasion changes people's minds, not blunt force.
